Double Clutch

How To Double Clutch

Take a look at this example...

First simply shifting up a gear:

  • You’re in 3rd gear
  • Push down the clutch
  • Move the gearstick to 4th
  • Release the clutch

Again shifting up, but now with the double clutch technique

  • You’re in 3rd gear
  • Push down the clutch
  • Move the gearstick to neutral
  • Release the clutch
  • Push down the clutch
  • Move the gearstick to 4th
  • Release the clutch

The extra “push down and release clutch” step, is simply to spin up the gearbox meshes. If performed just right, you’ll be shifting up more smoothly than ever.

Now let’s combine the double clutching with the heel toe technique.

Shifting down from 4th to 3rd:
  • You’re in 4th gear
  • Start braking with your right foot
  • Push down the clutch
  • Move the gearstick to neutral
  • Release the clutch
  • Use right foot's left side to keep braking,
use right side to blip throttle
  • Push in the clutch
  • Move the gearstick to 3rd
  • Release the clutch

Those are 10 actions to perform in the blink of an eye!
