Basics Of Racing

Extreme Imports

Consistency

Another element of the racing basics is consistency. It’s another major factor that’s really important for clocking good lap times. Once you have found the perfect line you should be able to follow that line lap after lap. This is crucial for a good racing driver!

Racing Elements

Famous Quotes by former F1 racing legend Aryton Senna:

“I felt as though I was driving in a tunnel. The whole circuit became a tunnel... I had reached such a high level of concentration that it was as if the car and I had become one. Together we were at the maximum. I was giving the car everything - and vice versa.”

“On a given day, a given circumstance, you think you have a limit. And you then go for this limit and you touch this limit, and you think, 'Okay, this is the limit'. And so you touch this limit, something happens and you suddenly can go a little bit further. With your mind power, your determination, your instinct, and the experience as well, you can fly very high.”

Ayrton Senna, 1960-1994

Practice

I've only touched upon the surface of this topic; grip racing goes very deep and requires great skill and knowledge. The key is of course... Practice!

Knowing how to do it is something else than actually being able to do it. Having some knowledge about the basics of racing however is definitely a good start. You'll remember these basics for the rest of your racing career!

Just to save you from crashing and being very much upset about it, you can start out by using an old, and especially cheap car! Fixing up an old car will be cheaper than repairing your $10k modified import!

Racing is expensive and how good you’ll get depends on what you can afford on damage, tires and gasoline. Practice and study hard on all the techniques shown in our driving technique section! If you’re serious about learning racing, then you will learn it someday, it just takes a lot of drive to do it!
